Ubbe Ragnarsson, (d. 878) was a Norse warlord during the Viking Age.
Ubbe Ragnarsson was one of the sons of Ragnar Lothbrok, and, along with his brothers Halfdan and Ivar the Boneless, led the great heathen army.
History of Ubbe Ragnarsson
In 878, a raiding party of Vikings arrived in England on a raid up the coast from Combwich. There they found that a number of Saxons had taken refuge in the fortification of Cynwit.
The Vikings laid siege to the fortress, expecting the Saxons to surrender quickly for lack of drinking water.
Instead of waiting to die of thirst on the hilltop, the Saxons suddenly attacked at dawn, taking the Danes by surprise and winning a great victory.
Ubbe died at the hands of the Saxons under the leadership of Odda of Devon at the battle of Cynwit in Somerset. The name of the town of Hubberston in Pembrokeshire (Wales) has its origin in the name of the Viking.
Little else is known about Ubbe Ragnarsson. All information about the Viking leader comes mainly from the Anglo-Saxon chronicle.
