It is rare that Netflix offers several seasons to its new series. Usually, Netflix waits for success on the platform based on the number of viewing hours before deciding to renew a series.
And yet, the teams of Vikings: Valhalla may not have to hold their breath after the release of the first season to know the future of the series since 3 seasons are already planned!
Netflix had so much confidence in this project of spin-off of Vikings that the platform had ordered 24 episodes at once!
Each season is eight episodes long, so that's three seasons on the clock for now. But the showrunner Jeb Stuart obviously hopes that the series will have many more seasons.
Even if we will have to wait to know the success of Vikings: Valhalla on Netflix to know if these multiple seasons will indeed be aired on the platform, it was important for the showrunner to plan several salvos of episodes when writing the series, as he had explained to Entertainment Weekly :
"We have several great characters and we have stories in different countries. I think you almost have to be able to look over the horizon. When I was pitching the show, I was trying to pitch it as a multi-season piece because that way I could develop these characters in the storylines over a longer period of time." The showrunner has gotten so far ahead of himself that Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 is already in the works with "huge, exciting stories."
